Cat and Dog Ultrasound in Youngsville
Heartwood Animal Hospital is pleased to offer state-of-the-art ultrasound for pets in and around Youngsville. This technology allows for safe, in-depth imaging of the abdomen and various internal organs, and can help us detect problems that X-ray imaging cannot.

How Ultrasound Works
Unlike X-ray, ultrasound does not use radiation. Instead, it involves transmitting high-frequency soundwaves through the body to create moving image in real time. Ultrasound helps us capture images of the internal organs in greater detail and determine their shape, size, texture and blood supply.
Things we can evaluate with cat and dog ultrasound include:
- Pregnancies as early as 3 weeks after breeding date
- Liver and gall bladder
- Spleen
- Kidneys and urinary bladder
- Stomach and intestines
- Pancreas
- Lymph nodes
Why Your Cat or Dog May Need an Ultrasound
Following a physical exam and blood work, your veterinarian may recommend a cat or dog ultrasound if they have concerns about their condition. If we suspect your pet has fluid buildup in their abdomen or possible bladder stones, an ultrasound can help us detect those issues.
Dr. James Murray has attended special cat and dog ultrasound training outside of veterinary school. If needed, we can use telemedicine to submit the ultrasound images to specialists around the country for further review. We believe in using every resource available to ensure that your pet receives the best care. Furthermore, we want to get all of your questions answered and give you the peace of mind you deserve.
